City Of Medicine Hat Collective Agreement

MEDICINE HAT – The union representing hundreds of municipal employees and the Medical City have ratified a new collective agreement. About 700 employees are affected by the new agreement. Mayor Ted Clugston said the agreement between the city and the union was reached quickly. “We are pleased to have reached an agreement through constructive and respectful efforts,” said Robert Nicolay, City of Medicine Hat CAD. “The three-year contract is fair and reasonable given Alberta`s general economic conditions and provides security for the city, the Union and workers in times of great uncertainty. Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat has ratified a new collective agreement with Local #46 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. The collective agreement between CUPE Local 46 and City of Medicine Hat runs from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022. The previous agreement expired on December 31, 2019. The new contract is valid for three years, from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022. General wage increases include 0% from 1 January 2020; 0% effective January 1, 2021; and 2% effective January 1, 2022. Contract closing meetings were held on August 11 and 13 at the Esplanade Main Theatre.

The two sides agreed on a zero per cent wage increase for the period 2020-2021 and a 2% wage increase on 1 January 2022. “People are pushing us to cut costs here, and I can`t say enough about the CupE that presents and ratifies this agreement. There have been a lot of zeroes in recent years for a lot of people,” Clugston said. I think the message is that we all have to work together, and it is the board, the management and the unions that work together. I`m actually very happy,” he added. “This is an important milestone of CUPE 46 and the City of Medicine has been coordinating with the negotiating groups early and all this in a very difficult COVID-19 environment, and some of the challenges that have emerged from this” Coun.
